I have to share with you a wonderful scone recipe. I remember the first time I had a New Zealand scone. I knew then I had found a new favorite snack. What could be more perfect – a sweet, delicious, carbohydrate snack made without sugar. A perfect morning tea for adults and kids alike. And they are great fresh and hot straight from the oven, or just as good room temperature from the pantry (on the rare occasion that we didn’t finish the batch right after we baked them).

The scone recipe we use is simple and easy to follow. We actually started making it regularly when the kids were younger, because it was so much fun. Just look at the giant smile on my daughter’s face as she uses her fingers to combine the butter and flour. If you are a bit more like me, you will use utensils to cut in the butter. Either way if you are following my favorite scone recipe, you will end up with a wonderful treat.

What makes this snack sweet is the way in which they are served. Following the New Zealand tradition, we serve scones with jam whipped cream. For us, we prefer a red berry jam like strawberry or raspberry. I have had scones at friends who serve them with orange marmalade, also delicious.

So, next time you are wondering what to serve with that morning cup of coffee, and you are wanting something delicious without sugar, I hope you will give this scone recipe a try.
