First there was planking, now there is owling. Whoooo knows what silly fad or meme will come out of Australia next. (Sorry, I just couldn’t resist the whooo owl pun). Have you seen it, or the many funny owling t-shirts? Or are you wondering what in the world I am talking about now.

Owling, like planking, is simply the act of imitation. Only owling is a bit more interesting. Personally, I don’t think so, but owling does make for funny t-shirts. Owling is simply the crouching down in a perched position and glancing off into space as if you were an owl. Whereas planking imitated a plank – laying flat, face down, arms at your sides.

What makes either of these two ridiculous activities interesting enough to write about is the next steps. Once in proper position, to be “owling” one must have their photo taken and posted on the internet. And did I mention, both owling and planking take place in an unusual location. Apparently the more bizarre, the better.

Even my daughter gave owling a try in the photo above.

And like all fads, the t-shirt makers have jumped onto the bandwagon, creating clever, funny and a generally amusing array of funny owling t-shirts. I collected all my favorites in one spot. You can see it at: Top 10 Funny Owling T-Shirts which even includes a video segment from a news show featuring, you guessed it: Owling.
